Worst pile of crap architecture

You gotta love the Donald. Yesterday, Donald Trump held a press conference at Trump Tower to say that architect, Daniel Liebeskind’s design of the Freedom Tower for the World Trade Center “is the worst pile of crap architecture I’ve ever seen in my life.”

Trump went on to say that the Freedom Tower model “looks like a junkyard, a series of broken-down angles that don’t match each other. And we have to live with this for hundreds of years?”. So what is Donald’s solution? Another set of Twin Towers that are one story taller than the orignial.

I’d have to agree with Trump. New York just doesn’t look like New York without the Twin Towers.

Good luck trying to get people to work on the 70th floor though. Insurance for any space in those buildings will be a tad expensive. And how do you stop a 747 from taking them out again? Do you put a couple of Black Hawk helicopters on the roof of each tower?

It could take years before something gets built at the World Trade Center and I hope Donald uses his “persuasion” to make it happen soon.

Jay,

I agree with the Twin Tower idea. In fact I think the Black Hawk helicopters would be a great tourist grab. Go for a ride and if you are lucky you may get to shoot an airliner down.

Trump is an ass. His “idea” is just sort of a “my willie is longer than yours” stunt. He’s no architect. Love it or hate it, at least Liebeskind has thought through the security of the new building.

The icing on the cake is when Trump mentions that they will be one story higher than the original. HA! I love it. Trump, with all this flaws, knows what NYC wants. THANKYOU!!!

Donald Trump to build it taller great idea but buildings look bland. He should have at least different look than old towers too closely matched. Towers should also be higher than Petronis. 1776 FT of office space high.

I grew up with the towers, I skipped school as a kid and climbed through them when they were under construction. My mom worked there for 10 years and I was lucky enough to veiw the tall ships from the 80th floor during the bicentenial.

Many great pictures of my family have the towers as a back drop.
When we visit the city now it is missing something as we approach from New Jersey. Thank You Mr. Trump for rattling some cages and saying what needed to be said. We must restore the towers to their original design.

Trump’s concept is a shoe-in. The design is already ‘proven’ except for the structural weaknesses of the ‘original’. The new towers will be in-your-face ‘safe’ and display the resiliance of a people ‘winning’ the war on mindless terrorism. BRAVO Donnald!!

I think Donald is right on. I miss my towers and so does America. This would once again say to the people, we are still here and we are strong! The helicopters would be a nice touch also. Bravo Donald, Bravo!!!

Repeat after me:

1. Change is bad
2. Different is wrong

Wow, Jay, this one drew some lurkers out of the shadows, eh? Funny how people just aren’t good with change - like the Parisians bitching about the Eiffel Tower. First they’d be damned if they were gonna let it stay, now you’d have another revolution of you tried to remove it.

And when these new towers, or new tower, goes up - there will be much criticism and comparison. It’s too tall, it’s too short, it’s nothing like the original, it’s too similar to the original. But 20 years from now, no matter how much they hated it now, NYers will be proud of their skyline and all will be well.

But God forbid we try something new. That would be bad.

Unfortunately, as one poster commented, Libeskind did NOT think through the security issues of the Freedom Tower, and that’s the main reason it’s going back to the drawing board. You can hardly blame Trump for trying to move the needle on activity at Ground Zero. It’s been stalled for months. There’s a wealth of info on WTC rebuilding at Project Rebirth, http://www.projectrebirth.org — background on the plans, history, interviews with architects, and updated news. Also lots of photos and film footage of early rebuilding. Good stuff.

Well, this topic has definitely generated a lot of discussion. Nice to see.

It’s also interesting to see the same people posting multiple comments but under different names. I’m not sure why they don’t just one email address. Their comments would still be as interesting.

i think donald trump has a very good idea as to keep the towers the same, now if he could come up with a plan as to how his casinos treat their handicapp guestI could take a pleasure in that,I have been waiting for someone to say they are sorry for the way i was treated when i was there back in jan

The new tower is a perfect example of people choosing a design too close to the event it memoralizes. The symbolism, etc. I’m glad I don’t live in NY; I would hate to have to look at it every day.

I agree the space needs filling and a tribute should endure, but more manpower will be spent washing the buildings to keep them clean than it’s worth.

This is a great opportunity to change and redefine the skyline, but don’t let another bleeding heart architect’s embarassing design be chosen again.
