Ask.com has some nice DHTML tricks and the interface is incredibly simple. Google has proven that simple sells.
Snap.com is another search engine that has been re-born into a Google clone but it uses Ajax and has some interesting search results using screenshots of your results to save you time.

I use Lycos Search when Google is down.
We have a friend who who works at a Microsoft affiliate. One time on the phone he said, “Just Google …” and a coworker mimed the universal “NO! NO!” and whispered, “MSN SEARCH!”
Our friend, of course, thought that was stupid.
