2006 Toronto International Film Festival

The 2006 Toronto International Film Festival runs from September 7-16 this year. 26 films have been announced so far. tiffreviews.com has a nice list of confirmed films that links to IMDB. There is also a list of unconfirmed films that might show at this year’s festival.

Copying Beethoven (2006) looks pretty interesting. Get a load of the wig on Ed Harris who plays Ludwig. Wow!

If you have any information on upcoming films then please leave a comment.

The Toronto International Film Festival has announced that “Babel”, the latest film by director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu (21 Grams), will make its North American premiere as a Special Presentation at the Festival.

The film, starring Brad Pitt, Cate Blanchett and Gael Garcia Bernal, tells the story of four groups of people whose worlds collide after an unfortunate accident in the Morrocan desert.

I’ve read that Babel is best avoided, like a “Crash” or “Traffic” retread.

The Wind That Shakes The Barley, the Palme d’Or winner from Cannes this year will be at TIFF. Directed by Ken Loach, it’s about the Irish struggle for independence early in the 20th century. I’ll probably see it.

I’m curious to see Copying Beethoven too. I have not seen a lot of Agnieszka Holland’s films, but Angry Harvest and Europa Europa were excellent.

A documentary that looks interesting is The U.S. vs. John Lennon.

I will be covering TIFF in my film blog.
