CNET reviews IE7

CNET reviewed the recent release of Internet Explorer 7. These comments made me laugh out loud.

IE 7 was Microsoft’s one chance to leapfrog ahead of the competition, but the company has only barely caught sight of the current front-runners. For more features and greater security, switch to Mozilla Firefox.

Then I read that IE 7 “reuses old IE 6 code and doesn’t yet comply with current Web standards” and I wasn’t laughing any more. Why? Because now I’m going to have to use more hacks and work-arounds to make my client’s websites render properly in IE 7.

What has Microsoft been doing for the last couple of years?

I have never written or other wise contributed to a review of a product on the internet.
But on this issue, I must.
First, as an ‘unprofessional’ I find IE7 smooth, clean and quick. (The web design issue metioned is beyond me…if I find it affecting me, as just a ‘user’…things change)
BUT…May I add…That Firefox AND Opera both fell apart like cheap suits after installing them. (Firefox was good for quite awhile then with 2.0…it went…!)
I think people are ‘herding’ (as usual) with this Internet Explorer issue.
It may be that I just haven’t given this new browser time to reveal it’s weakness.
Until then, I’m back to IE.
Addendum: Security is far more important to me now than being able to ‘tweak’ out my browser.
