Organic Peanut Butter

I have the flu today and decided to take the day off (something I never do).

For lunch, I decided to make a PB & J sandwich. Instead of the usual jar of Kraft or Skippy peanut butter there was a jar of President’s Choice Organic Peanut Butter.

I opened this new jar of organic peanut butter and ruined my day. Peanut oil spilled onto the kitchen counter, my bathrobe, the floor and the garbage can. Why is there so much oil in this jar of peanut butter?!

I screamed at my wife (who wasn’t there) for purchasing this organic crap that you have to ‘stir before using’ and ‘refrigerate after opening’. Then I threw the jar of into the garbage and asked my wife (who wasn’t there) why she bought this sludge. In seven years she has never purchased organic peanut butter. Why now?

Why would anyone purchase organic peanut butter? It probably costs more than the regular stuff, you have to stir it up before using it, and then you have to refrigerate it which means it’s going to be hard as rock the next time you go to use it.

Did I mention that you have to open the jar as if it contained nitroglycerin? Bloody organic peanut butter. I’m going back to bed.

Ever notice how crabby and sucky men are when they’re sick. They’ll whine about anything. Go back to bed Crabby McCrabbyman.

Hmmm. It seems that the organic peanut butter was meant for ‘The wife’ and not intended for the rest of the family. My apology to the wife for tossing her healthy, organic peanut butter in the garbage.

Is there anything actually inorganic in a regular jar of peanut butter?

I was dying laughing when I read this because it is the SAME response I got from my husband and boys!

There is some “getting used to” the organic variety of PB…but it’s well worth it when you realize what’s in traditional brands.

I did a post, inspired by your post, on What’s In That? Peanut Butter, which you can read here:

Hope your feeling better!

Paul if you have any question about organic/inorganic peanut butter then look no further than Denise’s site. She has an excellent post/essay on the topic.

Lissa, you’d find Denise’s post to be interesting and informative.

Organic peanut butter has nothing but peanuts. No animals, either: Kraft - bears, Squirrel -squirrel, Skippy - bush kangaroo… nada. Not unless you count Dave Nichol. Now we know why people have chicken soup when they have a flu.

P.S… Did the jam have pectin? Was it double fruit??

Mr. Pan, I’m going to have to call you on the Skippy. As far as I can tell they don’t have an animal mascot.

BTW, I would have had chicken soup but we were out. All I could find were cans of chick peas, mixed beans and a gazillion types of crackers.

Ok, so you caught me. Skippy uses a squirrel on its label too… but “Skippy the Bush Kangaroo” was such a wonderful TV show I couldn’t resist! But before you call me a flash in the, um, pan, spread this animal fun fact on your daily bread. It’s from Skippy peanut butter’s official site:

“The makers of Skippy peanut butter buy peanuts from the shellers. The shellers then ship them to the peanut butter plant in railroad hopper cars. Each railroad car holds approximately 190,000 pounds of peanuts ( about the weight of 16 elephants! ).”

Elephants! See? I found Skippy’s missing animal mascot in a Jif ( oops ).

I thought you would only eat organic foods now that you have become an environmental crusader.

I used to think organic peanut butter has to be messy, with oil spilling all over the place. Recently, though, I discovered Maranatha Organic No Stir Peanut Butter. Tastes great, no mess, and it easily spreads, even if you stick it in the fridge. To me, the USDA’s organic rules simply let me eat without filling my gut with toxic waste.

Maranatha Peanut Butter? Is that like Come Lord Jesus Cheese Slices?

weird, man.

hope you’re better, Jay.

David funny.

“Come Lord Jesus Cheese Slices”?

Awesome.

Maybe he should go into comedy.
