The Trouble With LCD TVs

I’ve been considering an LCD TV for the livingroom when our home renovation is completed (if I have any money left). This wouldn’t replace the projection screen in the home theatre, it would be a second TV for the upstairs. I just read The Trouble With LCD TVs: Motion Blur and the 120Hz Solution on Gizmodo and now I’m wondering if I should be looking at a plasma screen instead.

Any advice from people with LCD screens? I’m looking at a 30 inch display for HD content.

Jay,
With my limited knowledge of LCD’s I;ve been happy with my Philips. I know they are not as well known for tv’s but here is the low down.

For 1800 bucks at BEST BUY my 37 inch flat screen has the following
five input jacks:
AV1 can handle YPbPr Video and L/R Radio
AV2 the same
AV3 can handle Video, S-Video and L/R audio
HDMI can handle Digital video and audio
Side can handle Video or S-video, L/R audio and USB
Supporrts 480i,480p,720p,1080i.

The have heard that PLSMA screens do not do well with video games and have a faster burn out rate, but resolution is better.

The only thing that is hard with the LCD is keeping the screen clean, plus I recomend mounting it to a wall for better viewing. Any advice as to what to keep dust away?

Do you have an LCD or DLP projector?

JB, to keep the dust away, I suggest you clean your house once a week. Run the Vacuum. Get out the Swiffer Sweeper. Actually, Swiffer dust cloths are what I use to keep the dust off a tv screen or computer screen but be gentle!

Paul, great question and I think I know where you’re going with this. I have a Panasonic PT-AE700 high-definition LCD projector.

Brother-in-law Chris bought LCD and returned for a plasma. Watching hockey drove him crazy as fast action was blurry. However, plasma screens can burn a constant image into screen and light glare is much worse… Of course, you know how limited my tech. knowledge is!

I think the LCD TV technology is still too new to make such investment in a new set. I have been looking around for one as well, but decided to way for another year or so. I think the quality of image will improve over time as the technology becomes more advanced. That is just my personal two cents…
