Evel Knievel (1938-2007)
On of my childhood heroes passed away today — Robert Craig Knievel. He was 69.
Daredevil Evel Knievel claimed to be a lot of things but he’ll always be the daredevil from the 70s that jumped buses and attempted to jump the Grand Canyon. He was one of the crazy ones and he’ll be missed.

It was actually the Snake River canyon, and he failed, but yeah, he was one of my childhood heroes, too. I remember the toys, a doll on a motorcycle you put into a windup “launcher”. This guy caused me and my friends to start jumping our bikes over stuff and probably caused a lot of injuries. We actually made little kids lie down in front of our ramps and then we’d see how many we could jump over. Crazy!
