Frozen or fresh?

Lately, I’ve been watching a lot of Gordon Ramsay’s show, The F Word. Part of the show deals with people who can’t be bothered to cook, have these amazing kitchens and mostly microwave their dinners from the freezer.

I like to cook but occasionally those microwave dinners are convenient when you’re in a rush. It’s easy to live on frozen microwave dinners instead of actually cooking a meal with fresh produce.

What do you eat when it’s time for dinner and you’re hungry?

Jay,

I don’t cook. The wife should do the cooking.

That’s what Gordon Ramsay thinks too — not enough women under the age of 35 can cook and he’s trying to get them back into the kitchen.

Like most chefs (all chefs?), he hates ready made meals that you pop in the microwave or heat up in the oven.

People don’t take the time to cook, we seem to get caught up in our day to day activities. It’s pretty sad.

Think that its a tough one, as to cook from scratch takes time and fresh ingredients (that go out of date very quickly) add the cost as a factor and its easy to see why people go for the microwave option!

What Would Ramsay Do looks like a great site for US viewers of Ramsay’s shows.

I have to get my satellite dish hooked up soon. I had no idea Fox was doing an American version of his original Kitchen Nightmares show.

Oh, for dinner tonight I had some frozen chicken fingers, rice from the microwave and some frozen vegetables. Why? I played hockey from 5-6 PM then had to go and meet the teacher at the school. On nights like this we eat out of the freezer or order take-out.

We tend to eat well most nights. I will usually have some form of meat or fish - along with a rice or potato or sweet potato - and a salad. Occasionally I’ll include another vegetable (probably should do that far more often). Even on nights when we’re pressed for time and heading in three different directions, we’ll defrost some chilli or beef stew that I had previously made from scratch and frozen in single portions. Hmm, I have to think about what I’m going to make tonight.

Yeah, I do most of the cooking around here. That started when I was off work, and I’ve pretty much kept it up since going back. I enjoy it.
