Top 100 Albums of 2007

The year end lists have started. Paste Magazine has published their Top 100 Albums of 2007. Here are the top 10:

  1. The National - Boxer
  2. Arcade Fire - Neon Bible
  3. Bruce Springsteen - Magic
  4. The White Stripes - Icky Thump
  5. Feist - The Reminder
  6. M.I.A. - Kala
  7. Wilco - Sky Blue Sky
  8. Modest Mouse - We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank
  9. Band of Horses - Cease to Begin
  10. Iron & Wine - The Shepherd’s Dog

I purchased 4 of the albums in the top 10 and have to say that Wilco’s Sky Blue Sky is my favourite of the year. Every track on the disc is solid — their best album to date.

What did you think of the Springsteen album? I’ve only heard the one single on the so far (Radio Nowhere), and my reaction has been, “meh.”

Springsteen’s Magic would be my number 2 disc of the year. After my first listening I had pretty much the same reaction as you — “meh”.

Initially I felt that a lot of the tracks sounded like rehashed Springsteen tracks but the album grows on you. Two months later and I love the disc. It helps that I saw Springsteen perform most of the disc in Toronto a month ago. Back then, the disc had just been released and almost everyone in the ACC was singing along to the new songs such as “Girls In Their Summer Clothes”.

I don’t know many bands that can release an album and have 16,000 people sing along when the music is performed live.

I forgot about the latest Radiohead album, In Rainbows. I’m surprised it didn’t make at least the top 100.

I haven’t listened to it a lot and I’m still warming up to it. Playing it right now…

A while after I submitted my comment I went to look at the whole list. In Rainbows is number 11. I guess my complaint is that it should have been in the top 10.
